Welcome to the site where I have collected information and references associated with my activities as a Certified Flight Instructor. I am an instructor at the Wings of Carolina Flying Club, along with a number of other extremely talented instructors. I’m very fortunate to be in such a fantastic learning environment.

Additionally I provide tailwheel, spin, and basic aerobatic training in an American Champion Super Decathlon. Information about the training I offer can be found on my main website, planez.co.

Private Pilot Syllabus

The key focus of this portion of the website is to provide a syllabus and reference material for students. The syllabus can be found at the following link. This syllabus will at times reference the lesson plans below.

Checkride Oral Prep

This is a small tool I wrote to drill private pilot candidates on various oral exam questions. This can be used to prepare for your checkride, and is free for anyone/everyone to use. Any feedback or corrections are welcome.

Surface Analysis/Prog Charts

This is a page which provides a quick and easy access to the Weather Channel surface analysis chart as well as the 12, 24, 36 and 48 hour NOAA prognostic charts. This page provides handy NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons to quickly flip through the charts so you can easily see the progression over time.

Reference Materials

These are a collection of FAA Handbooks and FAA Advisory Circulars. Many are stored locally to avoid dealing with broken links, though local copies can get superseded by new versions.

Articles and Notes

In addition to formal lesson plans, I am collection various articles to use as supplementary reading material for students. These articles will also be linked to within appropriate lessons.

CFI Lesson Plans

These are my collection of lesson plans developed during my CFI training. These are the HTML versions, but printed versions suitable for including in a binder can be generated as well.

Policies

A short list of policies that have evolved over time. My hope is to clearly communicate how I work and what is expected of others.

About Me

For those who are curious about the individual behind this site, a little bit about me.

Contact Me

I can be contacted at dfrye@planez.co, which is dedicated to my flight instruction activities. This will help avoid having your email lost in the mass of other email I get at my personal address. Students will get additional means of contacting me (i.e. text, cell, etc.) once we start working together. New students will be invited to http://planez.slack.com, and joining is optional but does provide another way for us to interact.

For the geeks out there, see the writeup at the link for details on how these documents have been constructed. Contact dfrye@planez.co if more details are desired.
